The National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) is a program launched by the Ministry of Education to help children develop foundational literacy and numeracy skills. The program’s goals include:
- Foundational literacy and numeracy: Ensuring that all the children have these skills by the end of the Grade 3 by 2026-2027.
- Implementation plan: All the state and union territory governments prepare an implementation plan.
- Tracking and monitoring: The program’s progress is closely tracked and monitored.
- Parent participation: Guidelines are developed for parents to participate in home-based learning.
- Reading campaign: A 100 Days Reading Campaign is conducted.
- Stage-wise targets: Stage-wise targets and goals are identified.
The program is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and covers three years of foundational literacy and numeracy in preschool and grades 1–3.
